Richard Olshen, a prominent figure in statistics and a staunch friend of Israel, passed away on November 8. Richard was Emeritus Professor of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford Medicine. Among his honors and awards, he was a Fellow of ASA, IMS, IEEE, and the AAAS, and was a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow. He was one of the co-authors of the highly influential book Classification and Regression Trees (CART). Over the years, Richard visited the Department of Statistics at Hebrew University a number of times and gave seminars. We have fond memories of him and we will miss him. Yehi zichro baruch.
